Recommended oil/oil filter
Hey guys. Im going to do my first oil change on my 1600 classis with 12,500 miles on the engine. It is my first bike and I have never changed oil on a motorcycle before. I was wondering if you guys have any insight on which type of oil to usw because I am clueless. Thanks!

Rotella T-6 full synthetic and I use Fram filter.
I'm sure there will be 5,000 different opinions or you can search oil change in the search box.

Never use automotive oil labeled as containing "friction modifiers/reducers". It will play hell with your clutch. I prefer Mobil 1 synthetic four cycle motorcycle oil.

I have been using Rotella T6 for the past 24,000 miles and never a problem. I also use the Bosch 3300 filter.

Same for me. I changed from the Fram to the Bosch filter because of the low rating given the Fram filter.

i Use this .....
http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/s...w-40+motor+oil
And the K & N filter simply because it has a 17mm nut made to the back of it so its very easy to remove. If you do go with the K & N filter dont use that nut to over tighten the filter to much during install.

I and many others have used the regular Rotella 15w-40 in our bikes. It does not have to be the synthetic oil only. In fact, that is what's in my 1600 right now.

VulcanRider - Read the reviews in that link and see how many are using this in their bikes. Just because in the specifications, it has a "no" next to "motorcycle", does not mean that the person that wrote it knew what he was doing. Hell, he didn't even write all categories & specs for the oil in there.
Here are the full specs, approvals, & recomendations for this oil - http://www.epc.shell.com/Docs/GPCDOC...-US%29_TDS.pdf Notice the "JASO" spec |
