2012 Pittsburg to Antlers Route

For those that may want to meet along the way, this is the route Ann and I are currently planning to take to Antler's this year.

2012 Antlers Rally route.

This is similar to the 2010 route, but I've avoided Grove in favor of a few more curves on 82/20 near Spavinaw Lake.

As always, we'll plan on heading to Pittsburg on Tuesday evening and then meeting up for breakfast at Otto's Cafe on Wednesday morning.

Griz (and Mike), Bill (and Jim) are you guys in?

Mike and I are definitely in Glenn, looks like a good route. We'll see you and Ann in a couple of weeks.

You're going to love that stretch from Spavinaw to Salina. It's a fun stretch of road. I like to ride it at least once a year (It's usually a few times). There is a store you need to stop at in Spavinaw. It is on the East side of the road. About the only store there. It's called the Copperhead Mall. It'll be a nice little stop before you hit the twisties. Also, as you leave Spavinaw, there is a nice park directly below the lake dam. Nice area if you want a rest. The river runs out of the dam, through the park.

Gotta work Wednesday morning.
I leave the house at 6:10
Crystal say's she'll follow me into work.
Even if I have to go back home and get her, we'll leave Poteau around lunch time.
It's about 100 miles to Antlers from Poteau.
Be safe.... See y'all there.

Of course you are welcome if that fits into your plans. If not, we'll look for you in Antlers.

Glen, check the history on Picher, OK (just as you cross from Kansas to OK) it's really an erie feeling when you pass thru there about dusk. It really looks like a ghost town (or did the last time I went thru there).
I'll try and meet somewhere along your route. Planning to bring Gina on the bike this time so plans may change. I can hardly wait, looking forward to seeing everyone again!

Picher is a ghost town anymore. Used to be a lot of mining there and eventually the EPA shut the mining down. Too many people were getting sick from the chat piles that were building all over town. The piles became mountains all around town and just kept getting bigger and bigger. Some of the mining started going under the town and they were afraid of cave-ins. Then a tornado came through a few years ago and destroyed the town and that just helped the EPA shut the place down. I dated one of the EPA attorneys while this was all going on (2005-2006). It was one of her cases. Pretty interesting stuff when you get the inside scoop.

If any of you listen to country music, the guitar player (Joe Don Rooney) from Rascal Flatts grew up there.
