Bad buzz/vibration in turns/leans
Normally when I'm riding the bike, there's only the normal amount of vibrations you would expect for a bike, but when I turn or even lean enough to make a fairly quick lane change, I get a really bad buzz/vibration in the floorboards and handle bars. Not quite sure what to look for, but I didn't see any bad wear on the tires and not very much of the side of the tire touches, cause it doesn't take much lean
Thanks (Guess I need to get my sig back now) Login or Register to Remove Ads |

Yep, my money is on tires too. I was worried one time about the rear gear casing. Was getting a very strange noise back there that did not sound like the normal cupped tire sound. Changed the tire..all is good.

You could jack up the bike and check for play in the wheel bearings, swing arm etc, but as others have stated, unless you have recently changed tires I would suspect them.
My front tire looked reasonably good before I changed it but whined so bad in the corners, I thought a sport bike was behind me.

I would look the tires over really good. Sounds like a tire issue. As Norm said be sure and check for free play with bike off the ground.

When I had the ME880's on the bike they used to sound like bad bearings growling through the corners.

My bet is tires too. The next bet would be a bad wheel bearing, but tires come first. Raise the wheel, lock the fork, grab the spokes at 12 & 6 from the high side left as seated, and push - pull the wheel. If you find wiggle it's bad wheel bearings. To confirm, pull the calipers off, and spin the wheel listening for ticking and growel.
Probably this will be a total waste of time, and the bearings are ok. But since the bike is rasied you might take some 80 grit paper and skuff the side treads pretty hard where the feathering from riding corners has taken place. That might change the sounds you heard to be a different sound and would more or less prove it's the tires. The oem brick junk, sounded like a whine, my Dunlop 251 radial sounded like a siren, and the first time that happened I almost pulled over If you want to avoid most all of this go ride out some harder lean angles and accelerate out leaning harder out of turns on both sides. It is possible to grind off the treads riding corners more aggressively. If safety comes first, always, raise the bike and check the bearings.

Mine did the same, and the dealer told me my tires are cupped a bit.

Have to agree, front tire is starting to cup on you, my ME880 started it this year, still lots of tread left but if you look close you will see it. Ride safe!

Well I took a good look at the front tire and it looks pretty normal... What exactly am I looking for (like tell tale signs) I do have the Marathon tires. I know it can be pretty tough to spot the cupping sometimes though, so hopefully that's the explanation.
Is the only fix to replace then? Kind of a shame, there's a good amount of tread left, so I'd prob have to suck up the corner vibration (as long as it's no threat to safety) My jack is currently lent out, so it may be a week or so before I can check the front bearings. |

Close yer eyes and go feel the side edges for cupping. Then with as course a sand paper on a wood block as you have, skuff the tires. That may help, or not. Hard call. It may change the tone. It's best if the tire can be spinning when you skuff tires.
