GPS install
I'm installing an older Garmin on my 2010 Voyager. It is securely mounted to the handlebar but I haven't found a place to steal 12vdc. I would like it to come off of the accessory side if possible. I have investigated the inside of the fairing but didn't find any spare connectors. The bike does not have CB/XM or on board communications installed.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

I don't think the Voyager has any switched accessory circuits. I wired mine up to an auxiliary fuse block I installed in my Nomad that had switched power.
A Garmin only needs 1-2 amps for power. You could tap into a switched power source like your front running lights, or you could use the front running light circuit to trigger a relay and run a dedicated power line from the battery. Hopefully someone more familiar with the Voyager electrical system will pipe in soon.

Not sure about the Voyager but have a 2010 Nomad and there is a connection in the head light bucket and one under the seat. I would guess that it would be the same on both bikes.

Those are unswitched connections, they are always hot.

No they are not. I have my aux fuse panel being tripped by the one under the seat and it doesn't come on until after the bike starts. I have my light bar plugged in to the one in the head light bucket and it also does not come on until after the bike starts.

I have looked high and low in the headlight bucket and did not find any obvious connections.

On my vaquero, there is a wire harness that goes to the lower right side of the fairing for a 12v plug. I purchased a 12v panel-mount plug from Radio Shack and mounted it (Snapped right in to the provided hole that has a cap on it) for about $8, then used the same connection to run the Garmin I have mounted. Works great.

I used a 12 volt cig lighter plug, just made sure the wires were correctly attached, soldered, heat shrink and now just plug it in to the cig lighter adapter in the fairing.

I hooked mine up in the fairing, there is an open connecter with double openings(can hook two wires) to the right side standing in front of the bike with the headlight out. The connecter has clear vinyl over the connections and it is a switched (comes on with the key) circuit. I can't remember the color of the wires but just use a volt meter or a light probe. Good Luck.

This sounds exactly like what I'm looking for but even with your directions I can't find any connectors that only have two wires going in to it. I'll post a pic later. Thanks for the info.

I did exactly what Highwayman2011 did. Bought the Garmin hardwire from Amazon and wired to the connections he described. There is also a switched connection on the right side if you are sitting on the bike. I bought a 2 plug USB charger and mounted it in the trunk. The connection is under the side cover.

You have to pull the headlight out. The wire is in my headlight bucket is tied to the rest of the wire loom inside the plastic cover. One of the wires is black/yellow which is the ground side.

I know the first complaint I had about my bike was when I pulled the fairing off my Vaquero, they could have added about 5" to that headlight harness and made life a lot easier!
