looking for help in my area

Hey fellas I think I am beginning to hear some noise from the cam chains. I bought extenders about a year ago so I have those already. I have spoken with 3 shops in my area and nobody knows what I am talking about. One shop Walk-er-ride in Powder Springs talked about it for 10 minutes and then said no "too risky". Does anyone know of a shop in the in the Atlanta -Marietta area who can do this job? I do not have the tools or the know-how to do it myself but I am willing to watch and learn. Oh, and pay of course. Thanks in advance.

Cam chain extenders are not a dealer part, and I doubt many dealers would have any clue about them. They are pretty much a DIY job.

Vince, I've not did any either but wouldn't be at all apprehensive to try it with you when you're ready?
I'm about 2hours away in S.E.Tennessee area and should be able to supply the tools..

Vince,
I did mine a year or two ago and didn't find it as intimidating as it first sounded. Gadget's site is very helpful but I found the best instructions (with detailed photos) on Jared's site www.utahmotorcyclist.org. Unfortunately, looks like his site is no longer functioning. Perhaps PM him and he could email you the instructions in a PDF format.

One bit of advice I will give is to take off the LH crankcase cover and make sure that you position each cylinder at TDC when you do that particular cylinder. Yes, guys have done it by just pulling the spark plug and trying to determine when the piston is at TDC, but if you mess up and the cam chain slips on the sprocket, you're in for a real big job that requires splitting the crankcase.

Just my 2 bits worth.

You don't have to split the cases to retime the engine.

Whoever started that BS should be ashamed of themselves.

The extenders are a relatively simple installation.

Don't make it harder than it has to be.

Gadgets Fixit site has a good how to article on them, if the sight is still up somewhere, it will show you how its done.
Its actually easier to do than the way it reads.

I wrote this years ago. Perhaps it will help you do it yourself.

Thanks for the responses I really appreciate it. Jared that is a great write up thanks for sharing. Vulcan E and I have touched base and the plan is for us to get together in early spring when he has the time.
