2012 NW Regional Rally Info

Canadian Rockies Rally
http://www.vulcanbagger.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=23973

As most of you know....the 2012 NW Rally will be a combined rally with the Western Canadian Region. All the info can be found at the above link, which is located in the "Rallies and Rides" section of the forum. I just wanted to post this in the NW Regional Rally Sub-Board as well. Hope to see many of you there!

1,580 miles that's 3 days up at a decent pace. I'd have to get there a day early, so 4 days there. Another 3 days back. That's 10 days with 7 months to think about how to pull it off. We'll see.

As Mark will soon learn, the worst part of any summer ride out of Phoenix is the first 2 hours after you leave home and the last two hours before you return home. If you're heading west, you can triple that.

To make it work it will probably mean "without Patricia", but I definitely have the time off.

I already know about the 4:00 am departure time.

Not sure about upcoming project commitments and available "Liquid" assets.

Patricia wants 4 days for the 1,580 miles of travel. We still won't know till the time gets closer.

Mark, that sounds right. At 400 miles per day you will be fine. Just be sure that on your way north, just past Pocatello, ID you hang a left on 20 over to Idaho Hwy 93 up through Challis and Salmon, Idaho. From there keep heading north up over Lost Trail Pass and down the Bitteroot Valley through Missoula. That ride is spectacular in so many ways...!

Not trying to hijack here, but a couple of Harley buddies of mine and I are planning a 10-day ride this summer and our route includes the Bitteroot Valley and Challis down towards Twin Falls. We'd be coming through it from the North. Looking forward to it.

CJ,
Coming south, you will be completely unimpressed with Missoula. No matter how you slice it, it is traffic hell getting through town toward Lolo, but there is no way around it. The rest of the Bitterroot Valley south to Darby is pretty lame too...flat and straight.

But....once you pass Darby, you are on the money trail from there all the way to to Arco, ID..... From Darby to Salmon, ID you are following along the Lewis and Clark trail and there are lots of historic marker pullouts. I will be curious to get your thoughts on the run. Having done it twice now, once northbound and once southbound...it remains one of my all-time favorites.

One more piece of advice....the last two summers they have been working on large sections of 93 south of Florence, MT. Two years ago I rode through it and it sucked really bad. Last year, Vinnie and I were prepared and detoured around it, turning at Florence onto 203/269 south to Hamilton. It would be very worth your time to investigate what is happening up there as I'm sure they will still be working on it.

I will probably reserve scenic detours for the return trip so I have that "No time frame" thing going on. Still have a couple of "Hoops" to jump through for a passport. Then I intend to get a pre approved travel visa from the nearest Canadian consulate. Then I'll start route plans. Not that it's hard to do, I've just been dragging my feet (that's hard on the boots).

Mark, I'll trade ya, If I make it to the Southwest Rally in Kanab (from Norht Idaho), then you make it up to the Northwest Rally... Ok, OK, I've only got about 1050 mile down, and you have 1,400miles up, but who's counting.

Crying Singin the Blues

Work has told me that I have been denied my vacation request for the Calgary trip. Seems I made them mad when I went to the Redwoods. So I wish all my friends a safe trip and wish I could make plans with you all.. I already bought my Rally shirts... : ( Will I still get the respect if I dont go...... when I wear them ... Maybe someone can take them along and it would be a half truth...Its Sad we will not be able to see our Redwood friends, and sorry not to get to meet some new friends. Its weekends for me... So If your in Washington and into a short weekend Day trip, give us a ring. Don & Chris

Totally bummed on this one Kris, We were so into another ride with You,Trisha and All. Wanted to chew the fat with Rick and all those Friends we have gotten to know. Think of us on any warm ups on the weekend since my riding days are limited to mostly Fridays by myself and Sundays with Chris..Take care and stay in touch... Don
