Adventures in Canmore (Canadian Rockies Rally)

Well here goes...we had a great group of eight bikes heading up here from Coleman, AB yesterday. The weather was wet off and on, but everyone was stoked to get here. Vinnie met us when we left Colville for a short ride with the group, and Bud met us in Coleman, AB for the final days ride to Canmore. This place is stunning in its beauty...totally like nothing else you have seen.

We had a close call coming into Canmore though. We were coming up Hwy 40 (Kananaskis Trail) with me in the lead. Several deer jumped from the weeds and literally jumped over Mike and Lorna's bike who were riding in the third position...breaking off Mike's right mirror and helmet visor and hitting Lorna square in the head with a hoof...! Miraculously, Mike kept the bike from going down and after a long stop....we managed to keep rolling toward town. Lorna was pretty shook up but otherwise okay. As beautiful as it is up here, wildlife is EVERYWHERE. We came across a small herd of Rocky Mountain Sheep along the road shortly afterwards.

Anyways...we made a nice run today on our group ride over to Radium Hot Springs for lunch and back, spotting several deer along the road as our radar is tuned to the max! Here is a link to some photos that I will update over the next few days. The weather was warm and sunny today and the next couple look pretty good too. I know you wish you were here....

Hell, I don't blame her for being "shook up". That's scary.
Glad everyone arrived safely.

Great pictures, sure is beautiful country

John,
Ricky and I can't express enough how sorry we are you were not able to attend. I think I can speak for everyone when I tell you how much we were all looking forward to meeting you. Thank you so very much for the great gifts you left for us to raffle off...really some cool stuff. Get well soon and with any luck maybe we will see you at the National next year!

Kris and Rick; Thanks guys but I'm really bummed out that I couldn't make it too. Back to the Doc this morning for another assessment. I'm interested to hear how many people bid on the intake and what it went for? Also would love to see the look on Rickyboys face when he opens his gift. I delibertly taped up it to make it difficult for him to open it because he's been bugging me for a long time for this item..lol..John

Today was a free day here at the rally, so people kind of headed all over. Tricia and I joined with Mike and Lorna, Doug (Chili) and Charlene, and Glenn (peternomad) and Ann for a run into Banff and a trip up the famous Banff Gondola where the view was simply stunning. Kicking back now before our big raffle/dinner this evening. Should be a fun night as we have lots of prizes for the fundraiser and the Iron Goat Pub and Grill has a remarkable menu! We sold a ton of tickets last night and I would expect we'll be able to donate well over $500.00 to the Rocky Mountain Animal Rescue here in Canmore....

The entire towns of Banff and Canmore are surrounded by spectacular mountains and everywhere you go they are right in your face....pictures cannot do it justice. Put this place on your bucket list for sure!

More later...here are a few added pics from the day....

Absolutely stunning scenery! I wish I could have gone.

The wife of the guy at work I had to postpone my vacation for had their baby 2 weeks early. I could have gone to Canmore. I didn't know that 3 months ago, when I was scheduling time off though.

It is a very scenic ride through that area, I will have to get back there someday. That was a close call getting kicked by the deer, another good reason to wear a helmet. That happened to Trip as well a few years ago.
