VBA – BC Okanagan/Kootenays Tour July 17 – 20, 2015
Some have suggested that we have a rally here in Western Canada this summer for those who will not be attending either the National Rally in Eureka Springs or the event in Lake Tahoe. And let’s face it, the sagging Canadian dollar isn’t making travel south of the border real attractive these days!
So the plan is to do a 4 day weekend "rolling rally" event. I think it is safe to say it’s a lot easier for most of us to get a day or two on either side of a weekend than do something mid-week. Here is the itinerary” • Friday 07/17 - everyone makes their way to meet up in Salmon Arm, BC. • Saturday 07/18 - side trip to Sorrento to the Dreamcycle Museum and then backtrack south and east through Vernon and take Hwy 6 to Nakusp - approx 5 hours riding time (+ a couple of hours at the museum + ferry wait time at Fauquier) • Sunday 07/19 - From Nakusp north on Hwy 23 and then take Hwy 31 south to Kaslo and then to the Kootenay Lake ferry crossing and to Creston for the night. - approx 6 hours riding time (+ ferry wait time at Balfour) • Monday 07/20 – a tour of the Kokanee brewery in the morning for those who want and then say our farewells and off to home. An advantage of this format is that people can join and leave the tour as they please. If you can’t get Friday off, well just join up with the rest of us on Saturday at Nakusp. The plan is to keep it simple; no “official” rally t-shirts, no wind-up dinner, no door prizes. Just a bunch of people who love to ride getting together to renew friendships and make some new ones. This will not be your typical ride-in-formation or everybody-stay-grouped-together ride. We’ll split up into smaller groups but everyone is free to go at their own pace. If you like slammin’ the bike through the twisties (and there will be a lot of them on this route), go for it! If you want to stop for a picture or two, see something you want to explore or pull into a roadside tavern to wet your whistle, go ahead. We all know where to meet up for the night and if you don’t show up for dinner we’ll be making phone calls, checking texts and if you’re lucky we may even send out a search party! ACCOMODATION DETAILS – Rooms for the tour have been blocked at the following hotels: Friday night 07/17 TRAVELODGE SALMON ARM (Contact - Kim or Michelle) 2401 Trans Canada Hwy Ph 250-832-9721 Email:tlodgesalmonarm@gmail.com Rate $114.95 plus taxes for a room w/ 2 beds. Other options available, smoking and non-smoking rooms and pet designated rooms available as well. They have 12 rooms blocked for us and will hold only until June 17th Saturday night 07/18 SELKIRK INN – NAKUSP (Contact - Sam) 210- 6th Avenue West Ph: 1-800-661-8007 or 250-265-3666 Email: selkirkinn@columbiacable.net Rate: $99 +tax for a room w/2 beds They have 12 rooms blocked for us and will hold only until April 30th Sunday night 07/19 BAVARIAN ORCHARD MOTEL – Creston (Contact Anne or George) 3205 Hwy 3 Ph: 1-800-663-9544 or 250-428-9935 bavarianmotel@uniserve.com Rate $79 & up + tax – They have some suites with a separate bedroom This is a smaller property and all 10 rooms are blocked for us until June 19th. NOTE RE: OVERFLOW ACCOMMODATIONS IN CRESTON As of 05/20 our group has committed for all the rooms at the Bavarian Orchard. I have made arrangements for additional "overflow" accommodations in Creston just down the street at: Sunset Motel 2705 Hwy. 3 Creston BC, V0B 1G0 Toll-free reservations:1 (800) 663-7082 FREE Email: sunset@kootenay.com They have blocked 10 rooms for us there. Contact either Dennis, Lillian or Lexii there. Group rate is $79 per night per room. WHEN BOOKING YOUR ROOM BE SURE TO TELL THEM THAT YOU ARE WITH THE "VULCAN BAGGERS GROUP" TO GET OUR RATE AND INSURE AVAILABILITY OF A ROOM I'm looking forward to a great time and hopefully we can get a great turnout for this tour. BTW, this is not exclusively for Canadian VBA members. All of you south of the border are more than welcome to join us for the fun and frivolity. Just remember to bring your passports!

Updates
Dreamcycle Museum Tour - Saturday morning - I've been in contact with Mark, the owner and he will provide us with our own guided tour of the museum including their restoration shop which is normally off limits to visitors.
His display now includes over 100 motorcycles. As well, their Sprokkets cafe has the most amazing cinnamon buns! You may want a lighter breakfast that morning so that you've got room for one of them! Kokannee Brewery Tour - Monday morning - for those who have a little time before they hit the road, there are regularly scheduled tours at 9:30 and 11:00

This sounds like a great idea, last year I did Penticton Nelson and Kaslo, it was my first road trip on the nomad, whoever engineered these roads must own a bike, i'm definitely interested in this trip.

Looking forward to this for sure. Hopefully Al won't attract a ticket writing lawman this year.

That was when we thought you were a law abiding citizen! We have learned the hard way.
I'm in though for sure, this will be a great weekend. Looking forward to meeting up with old friends & maybe some new ones.

I know you're going to the Wescaleros ride in August and I'll bet that you probably have some "settling in" to do with the new place, but it sure would be great to see you again! Al
