'06 1600 idle problems
My '06 1600 Nomad has idling problems. It runs perfectly except when I return to idle it's really low and sometimes dies. No fast idle on start up either. It's all stock except V&H baggers. I can't seem to get the idle adjust knob to turn either, but most concerned with what happened to the fast idle on startup.

Clean your throttle body really well. Use an old toothbrush and some Seafoam or throttle body cleaner and scrub the bores and the butterfly valves really well. Run some Seafoam or Berryman B12 through your tank as well.

When I bought my bike it only had the V&H pipes as well. Didn't run well at all. No power, just gutless. So I started with the intake, got rid of all that polution garbage as well and the reed valves. Now she runs great.

'06 1600 idle problems
Thanks for the help. I cleaned up the throttle body with Seafoam and it runs like new again! Also put some in the tank to clean up internally also.

Runs fantastic except the idle issue with no mods (yet). Get 40 mpg so don't wanna mees with too much right now. I do want to reset the fuel to get rid of the minor ping when I use 89 gas. Other than that, I'll clean the throttle body and run some seafoam thru it and see if it clears up. Been a mechanic long enough to know that if it ain't broke don't fix it!
Thanks, Cactusjack!

Well it's broke if you can't pull down the black knob and turn it. They do turn some hard but they do turn. Since you are handy go find the other end of it and send in some of your favorite penetrant oil. Still I had to wrap mine with a rag and grab it with pliers to pull down and crack it loose the first time back in 06.
If it were me: Step 1 would be get up some more idle rpm as these ain't harleys and if you don't have 900 RPM +/- 50 you have a engine that staves for oil and stalls. Step 2 is with seafoam and a brush scrub the thottle body out. Step 3 would to be check out the ISC's if they are still installed and wired up.

I agree, scrub out the throttle body with carb cleaner and a old toothbrush.

Thanks Mac. That's what I will do. It does seem to idle too low. I didn't pull to hard on the adjuster either.

If your throttle body is dirty and gunked up, it will idle low. Clean the TB before you mess with the idle speed.
