Take the fuel tank off and it's right in the center of the frame.

I have a '99 and I don't hear mine but the bike runs so I am saying with 99% confidence that the fuel pump is still functional.

I couldn't hear the fuel pump on my '07. I had to rent a pickup truck and haul it 400 miles home and replace the darn thing....
