Polished Rotors

A few years ago we had a member who polished his rotors. Anyone remember who that was?

Thanks, James. I was wondering who the twit was.

.

I used an electric palm sander, and the various grades of wet sandpaper to achieve the sheen.

What this non-metal worker learned:
  • Find something to watch on tv that does not require attention to audio (sports was my choice.)
  • Be patient (I fought this one). The next finer grit will NOT remove any imperfections that the current grit did not.
  • They are still holding up well.
I'm still impressed with the results (compared to the original rotors)

And now, a year later, does it still look good? Did it have any negative affects on your braking?

There is discoloration where the pads rub, but I don't try to clean it more than I do the rest of the rotor--squirt, wipe with a soapy rag, rinse. (My bikes would never win in a "detailing" contest). The non-pad area is just as bright as from the original polish.

I noticed no effect on braking. I only polished the outward-facing side, so I would think any potential problem is only half as great.

Thanks Bob..I just finished doing mine..I didn't do the pad area but did do the outer ring and the other side. When finished I used 500f. heat clear coat. Polished up the bolts and wheel spacers too..everything now looks like chrome...will post when front end is completed

Here's a few pics. The bike is in pieces right now and will get some pics of the parts on the bike after I'm done.
