Please check my thinking - switched wire...
I have an Eastern Beaver Power Center 8 Fuse Block in the mail right now. http://easternbeaver.com/Main/Produc...PC-8/pc-8.html
6 of the leads are switched. The power doesn't come off the switch, the power comes directly from the battery, the switch just tells it whether to turn the relay on or off. I'm looking at the wiring diagram for the Junction box (in the manual for the 2005-2008 Nomads). Even better... let's see if this works... It says that the output of pin 8 is G, the Headlight Relay. So if I tap into this, then the switched items in my fuse block should only be on when the headlight is on (and the headlight is only on AFTER I thumb the starter button). I think I tapped into the same circuit (headlight relay) when I installed my switched fuse block. The reason I know is because if I had tapped into another switched circuit in the headlight bucket, the block would be live as soon as you turn the key on. It isn't hot until you hit the starter button. Sounds correct to me.

My take is that a lead from the battery runs to the new fuse box marked Battery, and the lead from the head lamps simply turns on the fuse box..
If this is correct then you may set it up this way, and it will run most anything you add on. If the power terminal is the one the wire from 8G is to go on the fuse box this looks good.. Then the Gnd terminal is straight to ground on the engine, frame, or to the battery. Anything else will be run from a fuse off this new fuse box. This fuse box needs a diagram of it's own, and I guess you will get one when it comes.. I assume it has some sort of internal switching and or a relay.

You are correct and I really like the Eastern Beaver PC8 compared to the Centech AP-2.

Thanks everyone. And Bob (YellowJacket), I was tempted to get the AP-2, I wanted to start this back in Nov, but Jim at EasternBeaver assured me it would be worth the wait. Cutting it close to my trip, but I'm looking forward to hooking it up!
I just deciphered the wiring diagram, and I'm pretty sure I'm looking for the Blue/Yellow wire. (hmmm, matches your 'Stitch Bob ;-) ) Login or Register to Remove Ads |

Long time lurker - first post (I know, I know, post a picture - I will when my current project - fuse block, J&M CB, Back-off XP, Scootworks trunk w/ LED lights, Hoppy trailer converter, Techlusion TFI - is complete )
I have the same question as borto1990. I just received my Eastern Beaver Power Center 8 Fuse Block, and am having trouble figuring out where it will fit on my 1600 Nomad. It's roughly 4-1/8" x 2-1/4" x 1-1/8" tall, and the accessory wires connect along the 4-1/8" dimension (thereby adding to both sides of the the 2-1/4" dimension. It will lay flat on the bottom of the tool storage, but it doesn't look like the tool storage door will close with wires attached. It won't fit against the back wall of the tool storage. I'm thinking of cutting the tool storage area out of the left inner panel so I can mount the fuse block to the back wall of the left inner panel, but I want to make sure I leave room to install cruise control at a later date. Any thoughts? Also wondering where to splice into the rear light harness - I really wish someone would make a plug-n-play adapter for this! Thanks, Kevin |

If I could have found the matching connectors for the taillight harness to main chassis harness connection, I would have made a plug/play adapter for my Hoppy taillight converter. That is, in fact, the best place to splice into the taillight wiring. If you look under the seat, back along the rear fender, you will find a wiring harness that goes to a six pin connector. Splice in between that connector and where the harness passes through the rear fender grommet.
I have two accessory fuse blocks on my Nomad. One is just a standard 6 fuse unit I bought from JC Whitney, the other is a Centech AP-2. The standard one is mounted behind the left cover and the AP-2 is up front, to the right of the steering head. Here's some photos for reference: Centech AP-2 The "other unit" (note: the charcoal canister has since been replaced by my cruise control servo assembly)
