Another Tool to Carry With You
This is an additional item that might be beneficial to carry along with all the other tools. I don't think it was mentioned before. A small mirror with an extension handle to check your oil when you are on a long ride.
I know on my trip to Texas last year I had to place The Nomad on a rock or anything else I could find to check my oil. When I was at my daughter's house I had my grandson to help me. I sat on the bike and got it level and had him to get down and tell me where the oil level was. With the mirror with the extension handle I could have checked it myself. If you are riding with others it isn't a problem as you could get someone to look at the oil level as you sit on the bike. But most or should I say all my long trips are alone. Comes in very handy.

I try to ask someone very good looking to do that (girls). I sometimes accept help from others who are not good looking (guys). Other times I use the telescoping inspection mirror I keep on the bike so you are right on.

You're right. I've carried one on the bike for years.

Hammer, I like the way you think. That girl checking might just be the ticket.

I find it easier to have the bike on level ground, get down on my right knee, grab the front brake with my right hand and rear right dresser bar with my left, pull the bike towards myself to level and look into the sight glass. Now if I have a friend handy to sit on the bike and level it for me that is a true bonus. I carry way to much stuff as it is (Tools, extra gloves, first-aid extra) and you have to leave room for beer.

I carry a small piece of 2x4 wooden board with me and put it under the kickstand to check the oil. While the bike isn't perfectly vertical, it's sufficient to check the oil and it takes up very little room in my saddlebag. but I like the mirror idea.
Also I like the idea that I saw (and use) in Gadget's page of using a piece of plastic pipe on the right side of the bike, under the muffler to act as a catcher when trying to put the bike vertical. With the kickstand resting on the 2x4 and the pipe on the right side, bike can't fall over. Again, this is Mr Murphy speaking.

It also substitutes for a back scratcher

be cool. Hot mufflers and plastic pipes don't mix.
