TRIP 4: River Bluff Twisties

TRIP 4:

Prairie du Chien south to back-roads along the Wisconsin River to Boscobel, WI; then a return back northwest toward the Mississippi (Great River Road). This route will continue northward winding back and forth to and from the Mississippi River on rural roads to take advantage of these twisting and hilly roads.

Distance: 150+ miles.

Time: 5+ hours (not including any stops)

Skill Level: Moderate to High skill level.

Road Types: A variety of wide sweeping roads to more narrow tighter/twisting/hilly roads. This route will wind in and out from the two rivers giving a variety of elevations and road types.

Highlights: There will be no “highlight-stops” on this route as “the roads and the ride” IS the highlight of this route. If you are looking for a variety of road-types that will change from straight to sweeping, to hilly and twisting… then this is a must-do route. For some... the occasional sight of the Amish familes in their horse-drawn carriages and farm equipment may be something to enjoy; as this ride winds in and out of their farm lands.

CAUTION: Take your time on this route as road conditions and types will change quickly. There also may be deer, agricultural equipment, slow-moving cars, Amish carriages, and gravel in the turns on this route. Ride cautiously.

Personal Comment: I like this route for its variety of terrain and curves; although there will be plenty of times when one will wonder when these types of roads will appear again. With the way the roads along the two rivers are… it requires heading back-n-forth from the rivers to get to the “twisties”. The linking-roads to these twisty-roads are typically flat and sweeping.
