"NEW" Chuckster backing plate (Update Pg 6)
Yeah, the only reason for the left side plate would be to have the nice 7" air cleaner on each side. I would want it for symmetry.

"NEW" Chuckster backing plate (Update Pg 6)
I'm just a little confused when I read that people are using the stock dog bowl with a K&N. Does anyone have a photo of the stock covers (dog bowls) with the "7 inch" K&N filter? Thanks

Is there a reason that you couldn't make that back plate out of a thick piece of sheet metal and just drill the holes where needed?

How big are the two holes for the idle solenoids? Rather than send it back I will just drill them myself and save the hassle for both of us on the exchange. I am guessing the location just needs to be similar to the current location. Glad to hear you are looking at something for the left side too, would love the symmetrical look! Can the tunnel stay in with both sides done do you think, really do not want to remove the tunnel. May have to drill a couple holes to screw it to the backing plate so it does not move around / rattle or something.

Strobe,
You can drill them yourself, just size up the original holes in the plate. Make your you clamp that plate down good before drilling, so it doesn't take off on ya. I will be getting to the plates I have here today I hope to add the extra holes in, and I can let you know then if you haven't allready drilled yours.

"NEW" Chuckster backing plate (Update Pg 6)
I have a couple simple questions - just to check.
#1 - the solid metal tubes that the hoses to the solenoids attach to- can I just shove them down beside the tunnel or do I need to block them off? #2 I *think* these are my hoses I'm supposed to marble - they are different diameters. The larger was just above the right solenoid and the smaller was hooked to the back of the stock plate in center low. The very narrow one below that was just a short vent hose with a drain I pulled out. #3 What part, if any, of this bracket assembly do I need to leave in place? I removed it to unhook the hard solenoid lines and re attached it, but the more I think about it, the less it seems to be needed. The wire upper just seems to hold a sleeved fuel line or something so I would imagine it stays. #4 The back tunnel that was included with the K&N assembly is a bit too small (diameter), so I assume the filter lies directly on the plate and the cover just holds it tightly to the plate...correct? Thanks for the help all - I'm still excited to see what it looks like when all put together! |

Great job Scott.
Joe and I have been working on a plate that will take the stock 8" cover. He has modified the original one he sent me with (we hope) a final design. He is also adding the redesigned vacuum tubes holes and well as crankcase breather fitting. Should receive next week and I'll post results with pictures.

"NEW" Chuckster backing plate (Update Pg 6)
ok, i have mine apart and it's work in progress now. The 2 solid tubes that get capped off. If i just cap them and push them off I wonder if a rattle would occur. has anyone tried to remove them right where they split into the hose, then plugging the hose with a barbed plug? i don't know if my chubby little fingers can get back behind to do them at the manifold without taking more off than I think I want to.
