Lee to the Phillys
Well, Cliff Lee ends up in Philadelphia. I hate that. I thought he would stay at Texas...

Sorry for your loss Trip, I was hoping for a miracle and he would come to the Twins!

I guess the Rangers will be after the Royal's Greinke a little more seriously now. :(

I think you're right Glenn.
I can't figure it tho.... Lee had three deals... NY offered 140m for 7 years... Texas offered 136m for 6 years and the Philly's got him for 120m for 5 years????? Lee's wife didn't like NY because the fans there spit on the Rangers wives while there for the playoffs, so I can understand why he wouldn't go to NY...but I thought he was happy in Texas, plus Texas offered a better deal than the Philly's. Oh well, it's not the first time Texas has been screwed by an Arkie. (I hope Jerry Jones is listening).

He just liked playing in Philly.
Appears that unlike almost every other pro athlete, it wasn't all about the money. Quote:

I'm just glad the Yankees didn't get him. He's one that their rotten money couldn't buy. Just wish there were a way to equal out the money that teams could spend. Might make baseball a little more fair and give some other teams a chance to have a good team.

I'm torn about baseball's lack of a salary cap and limited revenue sharing. I'm generally not in favor of limiting someones earning potential artificially. On the other hand, it does get a bit tedious watching the Royals essentially be a farm team for the Yankees, Mets and Red Sox.
Lee just went with his heart. Clearly he felt he would be happier in Phillie. Greinke has some no-trade teams in his contract due to his social anxiety disorder. But he says he wants to be on a winning team, so he may be more open to some of those. I wish him the best, it has been a real joy watching him here.

I agree Glenn with your points about a salary cap, but sometimes things needs to be done to calm NY down on their "mightier than thou" spending. Greinke has social anxiety disorder?

Yes. He actually left baseball for about 3 months. He got some treatment and we didn't hear about it in 2009 or 2010.
