Gas Tank!!
I was going to reply to the last post with questions about the size / capacity of the tank............. I had to pull my tank for some work so what better time than the present to get some needed information.
First I ran the tank to get the low fuel warning light. Lucky for me I was only a few miles from home so I think the amount I got out of the tank was a true measurement for "reserve", 1.4 gallons. So, I got 5.0 gallons of gas and filled the very empty tank. Just did get the whole 5 gallons in, to the very top. This makes sense to me as I usually put between 3.1 and 3.4 gallons at fill ups shortly after light starts blinking at me. So I guess "MY" 03 Nomad 1500 fi has a 5.1 gallon . Wish I could get that other .1 gallon in. Just sayin. 2003 Nomad 1500 fi Login or Register to Remove Ads |

Fill your bike when it is upright and you will get more gas in the tank.

I'm guessing maybe 1 gallon. When I drained the tank nothing sloshed around. I'm guessing that the pump would stop picking up with at least .5 gal left. Not wanting to run pump dry, just me, so guess I'll never know. I did read here someplace that the fuel pump is liquid cooled, gas. Same as with caggers, and they really don't like running dry and I don't want to give it a reason to burn up.

I used to put a gallon can on the back and run all of my bikes out of gas to find out. But as soon as I switched to an FI bike I stopped for the same reason. There is no doubt the pump uses the fuel for cooling, those pumps work hard. Dunno how much it would hurt, but I am not going to be the guy that finds out.

Yes but then it runs out the over flow till it gets down to where it is supposed to be filled.

I always filled my 2005 Nomad when it was upright and to my knowledge it never overflowed.

If I am filling up and going to be running for awhile, I usually fill up past the baffle squeezing in as much as possible, never had gas come out the over flow except once when I didn't go far and parked it in the sun.

I fill up to the plate on the kick stand. I dont try to cramp more in because down in south TX it will build up pressure and spew out the over flow. I dont like wasting gas.

Fill it to just over the plate while on the side stand then pick the bike upright with out closing the gas cap. You will be surprised at how far it comes up.
Hey Norm, you trying to hurt my feelings again
