Do you get back on???
On another forum, there was a rider who went off the pavement into high grass and hit a stump, and broke his wrist. He rewarded himself be getting a Victory Vegas. Now, mind you, he did this to avoid taking a curve that had some gravel on the road. My comments went over so well they almost kicked me off, and they were no worse than here. I stand by what I said, if you purposely lay a bike down, you are no longer in control, especially if it weighs 820 lbs.

Do you get back on???
It took me almost 10 years to even have the desire after I wrecked. I have noticed more and more motorcyclists wearing bright neon green and I can't help but notice them. Lots of people don't die on motorcycles and lots of people die in their cars when they get hit by drunks. I guess when its your time its your time. I avoid riding at night after almost getting hit one night and after hiting road debris I couldn't see and after riding through a herd of deer. Heck, cagers have a hard enough time seeing us in broad daylight!

In my case it was 90+% rider error........
Too fast entry speed 20% Bad line 15% Over correction 20% Hitting brake (no doubt) 25% Too narrow of tires 10% Sand 10% All on a steep downhill tight turn on a road I'd never been on before! Does that equal 100% ? Login or Register to Remove Ads |

bartfly, I think ANYTHING you can do to call attention to yourself will riding you should. I have the headlight modulator and I can't count the times on both hands that I have seen cages look like there going to pull out in front of me and them slam on breaks. LOL what's cool is when I'm out riding and some peeps will just pull off the rode so I can go by. But the main thing is get back on and ride again.

Do you get back on???
Get right back on the horse, I say!!! I've gone down twice ... once just after I got my license and just this past Saturday. You may be a little shakey when you do, but by doing it you take control rather than letting fear control you. Wishing you a speedy recovery.........

Ponch, we wouldn't kick you off. We would just make you smell Nico's belly button sweat, clean Trip's dirty bike, look at BD (major punishment), and hand wash my nasty, sweaty do-rags.

Do you get back on???
Hi Bartfly,
Welcome to Nomad world! I hope your leg and pride heal fast. I know from experience how difficult it is to go down on your bike and then get back on without feeling skiddish. If you do decide to get back on you will feel uncomfortable and you will never forget what happened. That's a good thing but don't let it rule your riding. That could be disastrous. I have a couple of suggestions for you ( my 2 cents). Like ponch I would heavily suggest taking the MFS riding course. If you've never taken the basic class , take it. Then take the ERC. It will help build your confidence up again and make you a much better rider. By the way the ERC is taken on your own machine. When you do start riding again, don't jump right into heavy traffic. Ride at off-peak hours for awhile. As others have said...assume NOBODY see's you. Stay healty vin |

To all my fellow Nomad riders. Thanks for the words of encouragement. And for those of you questioning my "laying the bike down, I didn't intentionally lay the bike down. I locked up the brakes because I had no room to swerve around him. In locking up the brakes I lost control and ended up rolling on the pavement. I almost always wear a helmet, but since I was only going less then a mile, I said why bother, it was a beautiful day. I do remember hitting the pavement with my head. I will never again go without a helmet even if it is around the block.
I was actually looking into rider courses. Nico: I heard and read about you going down on Saturday. I hope all of you are doing OK. |
