So I've been studying tires all afternoon. Shoulda been out riding! Anywho, stock rear tire is the 170.70.16. Does anyone know, if the 180.70.16 will fit the stock rim? I think it will, but don't want to assume. The sidewall should be the same width, right?
Who's the best? Avon? Michelin? Dunlop? How about Shinko? My local Kaw dealer sells Shinko tires.

The second number is the side wall height but it is the aspect ratio to the tread width. The stock tire is 170 mm wide, the side wall height is 70% of that, which equals 119 mm. The 180/70/16 is 180 mm wide and the side wall height is 70% of that so, the height is 126 mm. My vote is for Avon Cobras.

I'm running the Commander II's since late last season. They sure handle better than the Bstones. Not enough mileage to check wear. Only got 5k miles out of 2 different Bstones. I'm running the 180 on the rear, no problems.

I just replaced (2 weeks ago) the stock tire with the Michelin Commandre II in the 180-65-16 size. It's great! Smoother ride, and I don't feel the road grooves near as much, if at all. Haven't checked mileage, but it's probably similar.
Recommend!
