Oil dripping...

from the rear jug around the black holder for the spark plug. The spark plug hole is dry and oil is only coming from the outside of the hole. I did a bunch of searching and I think that it is the seal for the spark plug (the easier of the fixes). I would imagine it to be a seal because of the sitting for a while with no miles being put on her causing some dry or sticking seals. So, I don't have the manual yet and was wondering what that seal is called and how to replace it? Oh and any special tools?

It's new to me bought it in late Feb and putting my first amount of miles on it last weekend and this week (about 150ish miles)

stewdogg: you can go to bikebandit.com and look up the micro fiche of that part. Show each part and gives it a number. Good luck, hope its an easy fix.

The spark plug tube has two o-rings of different sizes on it.

The part numbers are:

92055-049 o-ring 31.7mm x 2.4mm
92055-1272 o-ring 27.2mm x 1.9mm

To remove the tube you need a 27mm hex tool. The cheapest way would be to go to a hardware store and get a large bolt which has a head that is either 27mm or 1.06 inches across. Also get two nuts for the bolt and jam them together on the end of the bolt. Voila, a spark plug removal tool.

Or you could search around for a 27mm hex tool. There was one on Ebay for BMW's for about $15.

Thanks guys!
I'm going over to the dealer right now to see if they have them. Thanks for the tip on making the removal tool!
I'll keep you posted.

Go figure that the dealer had one o-ring and not the other. It is supposed to come in on Fri. (I hope).
I smelled the oil this morning when I got to work and saw a little substance on the crankcase. I just went for a ride to the dealer and to grab a bite to eat and I didn't see any signs of new oil. Maybe I just didn't ride far enough to blow any out or maybe...
I will be replacing them on Fri.

Thanks again!

Hi Stewdogg

After reading a lot of the information posted on this site, I trust the information I read here more than I would from a stealer. I'm always amazed when someone asks a question at the quick and common sense approach to dealing with it. Although, I'm not too sure about having to change the air in your tires every 12,0000 miles:)

LOL, stewdog, maybe you just need to ride the bike more.? maybe the 0-rings shrunk a little on you and need heat/oil to pump up a little, worth a shot.

Get a bar of Ivory Soap by brand, and make a slurry of it, to paint where you see the leak till the gasket (O Rings) come.
