In Utah, if you hit and killed a big game animal, you could keep it, but I believe you had to fill out a form with the Game and Fish Dept.

Hell, where you live if you hit it and turn around to go back, it should be about broiled to about medium-rare and ready for some garlic salt and butter

If you hit a deer in LA you can keep it if you pick it up and leave the scene without having a report filed. If you call LEO, a wildlife agent will be dispatched to fill out the accident report and he will pick up the deer, clean and quarter it and donate it to a needy family on their list.
