LED Engine Lights
I noticed that JD01 has some really sweet red LED lights that light up the engine block on his Nomad.
I am wondering 1: is it legal to ride with these one, and 2: what kind of lights are they and how do you intall them. Is it just a 12V battery hook up with an inline fuse, or a battery pack, etc. I think it is a great way to add some nice "show room" effects to the bike and add some safety for riding at night. I'm no Department of Transportation authority, but any state I've ever dealt with has stated a basic rule that amber lights must face frontwards or to the sides of the vehicle, and red must face rearwards, except at the back of the vehicle where a red light may be displayed to the side. I'm sure there's a more eloquent way to state that.
Most of the engine lights I've seen run on 12-volt. Whether you might get a ticket for having red lights displayed on the side of your vehicle would probably just depend on the mood of the officer. You might want to hook them to a seperate switch. www.cruisercustomizing.com is but one place of about a hundred that have a pretty extensive selection of aftermarket lighting. |

The accent lights I have on my bike are the Boogey Lights. The website is http://www.boogey.com/ . Haven't had any problems yet about them being illegal or not, but lots of bikes have accent lighting and I've even passed police cars on several occasions with them on and have had no repercussions. The ones I have are the TNT Engine Kit and comes with 6 pods that have 4 LEDs in each pod. Kit also comes with wiring, inline fuse, switch and adhesive. I mounted 2 pods under each side of the tank and 1 pod behind each air filter "dogbowl". I did not use just the permanent adhesive to mount them, but used heavy duty velcro with the pods in case I ever need to take the tank off, I can just disconnect the velcro halves. Also comes with instructions and the website even has a video that shows you how.

I have them on my bike as well and I haven't ever been stopped or been told they are illegal.
I know there are laws in some states prohibiting them on cars but I haven't heard of anything about bikes. |

I think it has to do more with if the light element itself is visible and if it is a solid light or flashing.

Wow I just went to their site. I would love to have the ones they show on the wheel on the front page. that would look awesome. Think I might be looking into some brake rotor covers for my nomad.

I didn't care for the wheel light, but those engine lights... very sharp.
