Awesome Opening Ceremonies

Thanks Steve. I won't attempt to cross with it and don't intend to travel up to the border without it. I'll just have to do some research and figure out what I'm going to do. I would never attempt to deceive customs and cross with it. Too far from home to go to jail. I don't think my wife or I would do very well in prison. There may be safe storage (safety deposit boxes) on our side of the border where I can leave it until returning. The only problem is having to cross back at the same point. Thanks again guys for the advise. I have plenty of time to figure something out.
On a side note, I have a friend who duck and goose hunted in Canada year before last and he was able to cross with the shotguns in a locked case. I'm pretty sure he flew into your country though. Big difference between shotguns and a handgun.

Long rifles and shotguns for hunting are fine with a certain amount of ammunition allowed as well for the guns as long as the paperwork is in order. In Canada the main issue is the very heavy restrictions on handguns. I have friends from North Carolina that would come up bear hunting in the spring and goose / duck hunting in the fall and they never had issues with rifles and shotguns as long as the barrel lengths and clip sizes were all within allowed limits.

Strobe is correct in what he says, longuns are ok if you declare them and have the proper paperwork in order.
They treat handguns here like a plague and if your caught you will lose a lot of time and greif over them.
The only two ways we can legally own handguns here is to be either a target shooter, and you must belong to a club with proof, or as a collector, and they can never leave your residence.
If I want to take one to the gunsmith I have to notify them in advance and get a trip permit. It is good only on a certain date and time depending on how far Im taking it to the shop. You must follow the most direct route as well. They make it very inconvenient to have one here.
