7500 mile service
My bike is a 2003 1500 FI with 7900 miles. According to the service records that came with it, the previous owner only did oil & filter changes every 1500 miles. The last service was on 10-2004 at 7,000 miles.
My question is about the 7500 miles service in the owner's manual. It looks like I can do most of the items listed myself. The items I will have trouble with are: propeller shaft joint lubrication, front fork oil change, swing arm pivot lubricate, & steering stem bearing lubricate. I do have some mechanical abilities, changing my own oil & tune-ups on my truck & cars. But I will admit, I am a novice when it comes to motorcycles. I did call my local dealer & they gave me an estimate of $500-600 to do the scheduled service. SOOO......How many here do their own major servicing? I would hate to have a bunch of "EXTRA" parts left over as I cleaned oil & grease off the floor of the garage Thanks -Rich Login or Register to Remove Ads |

7500 mile service
Let me give you food for thought.
Most of they guys or gals that would be doing the work on your bike are going to be near minimum wage earners that have no feelings about your loyal bike like you do. Take your time and do it slowly. No sense trying to do all of it at once. Take one project at a time and spend a few weeks performing these maintenance procedures. You will probably do a better job than the service department. If it takes 2 months to slowly do all that's needed at the 7500 mile checkup nothing is going to explode because you went past the mileage. One weekend lube the drive shaft. Next weekend do the pump lube. Next, the stearing head...You get the idea.
