Thanks Mike, do you have lodging set up between Saturday night in Blairsville and Tuesday night at the Days Inn (or campground) in Staunton?

Nothing concrete. After we get back from the IBA run this week, we can talk more about details.

We will be in Staunton, VA Monday night. So the lodging would be the same as the rally hotel. We are still looking at the other nights. Dick has told us that their are some places in Blairsville to stay, I guess we will have to get the ending points figured out soon.

We can discuss this when you are here on Saturday.

Sounds good. Before that, take a look at Vogel State Park in Blairsville. I stayed there before and it's very nice.

Once you decide on the camping spots I'll be able to look for civilized hotel/motel lodging nearby :)

2010 Friday Night Camping

I started checking on places to stay that Sat night in Blairsville.
The cabins by Dicks house would have been great but it doesn't look like Alpine cabins will work out. Most are single queen bed units and they are more focused on longer stays and couples getaways I think. The only two bed unit $140 with extra charge if you stay only one night? But that would have been real convenient.
Check the hotels and other cabins around Blairsville and seems like it came down to Season Inn in Blairsville being best candidate I think. They advertise motorcycles welcome and are in town close to restraraunts. Web site shows $65 for a 2 queen room whic seems to make them the least expensive. We are all probably on a budget so that will mater a bit. Dick said he didn't know the place well but that it didn't look bad?
What do you guys that are going to hotel it think of that place?

May have the lodging problem resolved for Sat night. My neighbor Richard has three extra bedrooms and I have two.....plus we each have a large couch. I also have a single bed mattress that can be put on the floor.

So, depending on number of people, should be able to put everybody up without any motel expense. :)

Plus, each house has a "stocked" garage fridge! ;)

Dick, that is very generous of you and Richard! I hope this means Richard will join us for the rally? For those that don't know Richard he rides a 900 Kaw LT and is a great guy.
Right now what I know is that Doug Grim and I will be coming to Blairsville Saturday and we will be in "hoteling" mode. Joe Mrfuni will trailer up to Blairsville on Saturday because he is coming from south tip of Florida so his first and last day will be near 800 miles and he will be in hotel mode also. I gather from the posts that Cliff is coming up that Saturday and he and you will be moteling it the rest of the way.
Then it is Ron, Mike and Jim with their wives that will be pulling pop top campers up and camping along the way. They all plan coming to Blairsville and would then be camping out on the grounds of "Casa del Dixie."
I have seen several others in the forum post about meeting up along the way but I don't know for sure of any others that might plan to come to Blairsville. So if things stay as they are it means having 10 extra people (6 campers and 4 hotel'rs) at your and Richards homes. That is a lot of extra work for Kay, you and Richard and very, very generous of you all.
I am sure everyone thinks it will be great if we can all be together in Blairsville that first night to kick things off and get to know those we haven't met yet. And it would be great to be in a situation where, if the stocked refrig's are slightly "depleted", everyone can retire with out having to ride anywhere. I am also sure that everyone wants to help as much as possible and make this as small a burden as possible for Kay, you and Richard. So you have to let us help!
I was going to suggest that maybe you put the 3 "hoteling guys" from FL (Joe, Doug and me) in with Richard? I know Cliff has his own room at your place. And with all them "campers" out there in your yard you'll probably have you hands full with out any more inside boarders. How does that sound?

Dick, ditto on your generosity, but personally I don't want to impose and would be just fine at The Season's Inn in Blairsville. Since I'm trailering up from South Florida, all I'd appreciate is a place to leave my car and trailer while we ride to Virginia.

I know even when you have a house guest that is self sufficient, there are still bedding to be washed, bathrooms to be cleaned, etc. So the hotel is fine with me, and if I want to snore, fart, or whatever, nobody will be offended ;)

I have to agree with Ross and Joe. Dick, we do not want you to think in anyway that telling us to find a place to stay other then your place would hurt our feelings. On the contrary, we don't want to impose on you or your lovely wife.

If you do tell us to stay, I have to insist (like Ross said) on letting us do the work and cleanup.

Mike.

Look guys, staying with us (and Richard) for one night is no big deal. No reason to pay for a motel. Bathrooms get cleaned anyway. Washing sheets & towels is minor.
This way we you can socialize or whatever without any additional riding. We'll go 5 miles to town for dinner, then relax.

Why beg and plead when water boarding gets the answers so much quicker. Not forgetting the fact that it's fun and entertaining.
