Poor man's bike lift

Thanks for a great idea. I never thought of using my engine hoist on the bike. I'll have to get the 430 Buick off it first. As far as the legs being in the way, how about building a stand to bolt on to the tabs on the bottom of the frame? That would support the bike and allow the hoist to be backed out of the way. Or a simple square tube bracket to bolt to the same tabs and let that rest on the two jack stands? If the tube was long enough I think it would be plenty stable.

I follow. That would probably work real well. It might not even have to physically bolt to the frame. Just a place for the frame tubes to rest on. Say like a couple pieces of tubing split lengthwise and make the stand out of round or square stock. That's pretty much what the jackstands were doing. I relieved the pressure on the ram and the lift was just sitting there at that point not doing anything. The jackstands were supporting the weight of the bike until I put the wheel back on the next day.

For short term stuff like this wheel swap it worked fine. If I had to let it sit there much longer I wouldn't want that big ol cherry picker sitting in the middle of my garage for too long.
