If you ride 441 to the GSMNP you'll find a Gatlinburg Bypass.
Most riders around here avoid Gatlinburg at all costs.

And, it will be one of the 1st summer weekends after school lets out in many places. Great Smoky Mt. NP is the most visited NP in the USA. Gatlinburg and Pigeon F. have their own draw. Traffic will be a mess if it is a nice day.

Just a thought here - If I recall Wed of the rally is a "free day". There will be a lot less traffic in PF, Gatlinburg and the Park on Wed than on Sunday.

There are several small motels in Townsend area also where you could stay the nite before hitting the Mountain. If you have any questions just pm me and I will try to answer I live in the area around Maryville.
Tom I can't find tn 73, I found old tn 73 that stops on the other end of town at 321, There is another road 337 that goes down to cades cove road. My trip is not made in stone I will have to talk it over with the others but as far as traffic and heat I have been in Pigeon Forge & Gatlinberg many times in June & July that is not bad compared to Memphis in the summer.

Don't necessarily trust your GPS in getting you to Cade's Cove. Mine got me to a campground on the other side of the mountain from Cade's Cove. A dead end down a dirt road to a river. Use a map. :-)

Jim - take a look at this

http://www.nps.gov/pwr/customcf/apps/map....ational%2 0Park

TN 73 runs into the "Little River Raod", it will take you to the outskirts of Gatlinberg.

Jim if you come up 321 into Townsend stay straight do not turn on 321 to Wears Valley you will come to the fork in the road with a bunch of parking that is the Wye left brings you out just above Gatlinburg and right takes you over to Cades Cove if you would like to to that good road as long as traffic is not bad stop and go would be ruff on a loaded bike. The map in the previous post shows it pretty will all you have to do is enlarge it and you can see what I mean looking forward to meeting everyone in June.
