Very sorry to hear about your accident by happy to lean that there were no serious injuries.
Reading your story was like a flash back. Last summer on a KawaNow Ride in the 4 corners area I had a very near miss the same way. The right side mirror and foot peg on my bike were hit and turned by the bike going past me We were lucky neither one of us went down. Hope this all turns out good for you, your wife and friends.

Sorry to hear about this Kelly but as you know it could have been much worse. Hope you and the wife heal up quickly with no lasting effects. Good luck with the bike.

Hate to read about these accidents and at the same time I appreciate members share their mishaps.
It all happens very fast, there are things in life, one just cannot escape... Wishing you and yours a speedy recovery. Also good luck with your insurance company. Elvis |

Hopefully we will see you and your wife up on another Nomad soon. Nothing good about these accidents, but certainly make us re-evalute our riding/safety gear.

I was on that ride so I can respond. The leader of the ride (who shall remain nameless) pulled over very unexpectedly so the others could get some photos of a landmark, braking hard in the process. I was right behind him, but did not feel safe trying to stop that quickly and went on by. I think whoever was behind me did the same. The next couple people tried to stop including Bill....and the person coming up the rear (also to remain nameless) was late in stopping and tried to avoid by moving to the far right. There was some contact between bikes as Bill explained. I heard a tire squeeling and was expecting the worst. It turned out okay, but was still a good wakeup call for everyone. You can't make any sudden manuevers when group riding. Everyone reacts at different speeds, so doing things slow and deliberately gives everyone a chance to see and respond to what is happening. Chit happens quick...and usually when you least expect it. Try to always expect it.

Well, I have been pretty distracted from anything bike related this past while. I'm hoping that will change soon. Don't know about the shadow thing, but the snow is gone and if it would just warm up some, I might get on the road. Let's do coffee in Hope again sometime soon!! :) End of hijack! Mike

I don't think it is going to make it :( I just got the repair estimate and it comes to a total of $9800. At least my loan will be paid off. I don't know if the bank will give me a new loan living on workman's comp and a part time light duty job?

Just getting back to this post. Kris has pegged what occurred. Frankly, I think a very serious argument can be made that riding in staggered file using the 2 sec rule is not safe at highway speeds. The only way it can be done safely is if you stayed 100% focues in front of you 100% of the time. And, that simply is not going to happen or be done by 99.6754% of motor cycle riders. Why ride though God Country just to focus on the bike in front of you?
