Question Rear tire on Front

Why should the rear tire rotation be reversed when a rear tire is put on the front? Can the tire tell it is in front and wants to keep seeing the front tire? I do not get it. Does the tire move the water differently if it is in front. This does not make sence to the mechanically declined. I get the more tread on the rear tires and I like the idea of getting more tire for less money, as a near daily rider. Does it have any effect when running at CT on back? Any info on the +'s and -'s will be appreciated. Thanks for your time.

It has to do with the internal construction of the tire in relation to driving forces vs braking forces exerted on the tire they are different for front and rear tires.

running a Cr on back is called Darkside so running a rear tire on front with a CT on back would be double darkside.

I understand the braking v acceleration forces. My question (not totally hijacking the thread) is, will it affect traction either way?

I have a rear tire on the front of my Nomad. And I run it backwards also.
You do that because of the way they add the plies to the tire.
The traction won't be effected in any way...

I am with Monkeyman, if the rear on front rotation was not reversed, what would the negative physical handeling effects be?

I run an unreversed rear tire on the front. No problems I have found and tread pattern is very distinctly one direction.

Like Wompus I have a rear reversed on the front. I have ridden through some downpours which I shouldn't have, and it shed the water perfectly. I would not run it with the arrow. Even the wrench who mounted it for me knew to run it reversed.

Tread pattern is reverse for a rear tire.
Reverse rotation direction when when mounting as a front tire.
Helps on wet pavement.

I just looked at some expanded views of Dunlop 404 front and rears on the Dennis Kirk site. The the water evac lines from center of tire to sidewall do run in opposite directions. On the front the lines run up the tire and on the rear they run down. I still don't get the "how come?", but I figure a much smarter fella tham me figured it out. And that must be the reason for the reverse. I never noticed the difference in tread direction before. That is probably why they put arrows on them, so logical brilliant mechanically declined folks like me don't think their way into a pair of dusted britches. I just got a new for real front tire that will be mounted Monday. But in about 10k I will be a Dbl Darksider. Thanks for all the info folks.

Last month I had a Continental Conti Tour rear tire mounted on the front of my Nomad. The tire is marked from the factory one direction for rear and the opposite direction for the front. Some engineer at Continental has an opinion?
