Helping passengers enjoy the ride

Here's a recent write-up on how to help your passenger enjoy riding almost as much as you.

Good stuff Jared...and all on the money. The intercom system really makes things a ton better for both rider and passenger. As a rider, you can talk without taking your eyes off the road and as a passenger, you no longer need to rely on hand signals or thumps to the helmet to get a point across. I also purchased my wife a Gerbing heated jacket liner w/G3 gloves to match my own...something she says is the best thing I ever bought her! Now we can enjoy the road together even on those chilly days when most would be curled up in front of the fire....

Have to agree on the head sets, for two up riding she feels more at ease being able to chat with me while we are out and about

Head sets have been the best investment.

Another thing, tell her that when she wants a break to tell you and do it at the first possible spot. If she's happy, your happy.

I agree completely Joel, nothing worse than the wife having to go and making them wait. That really upsets them.

Good article Jared. I would like to add I keep my wife involved in the ride by having her point in the direction I'm making turns or changing lanes. We have done it so long I see her shadow already pointing my lane change before I hit the turn signal. She knows how I ride. I tell her that when I see this I feel compelled to change lanes.

When riding in groups through the mountains she also points out road hazards (rocks, potholes) to those riding behind us.

She never re-adjusts her seating position without first tapping me on the right shoulder. A nod from me means jump around all you want. A shake means sit tight and ask me again after the next curve.

Been looking at the different intercom systems. They all seem to have their flaws. I know it's kind of subjective but who has an opinion on the all around best model?

You could do a search for intercom systems. Lots of previous posts have comments
from those that installed them and what they liked and disliked.

I've always believed the best way to help a passenger truly enjoy the ride was to encourage them to get their own motorcycle...

Edited to add: I just bought my girlfriend another new motorcycle yesterday, she took a fancy to a new -0- miles 2010 Vulcan 900 the dealer had, so I got it for her... she's been riding since she met me 10 years ago...
