SiriusXM radio solution

Two weeks ago I decided I wanted satellite radio for my bike, and with the national rally coming up I needed something quick.

NOTE:
*Yes, I am aware there is a monthly fee for XM radio service.
*Yes, I am aware that you can play music on a smartphone, iPOD, or other MP3 device.
*Yes, my audio system has a CD player.
*Fact is, I enjoy programming available on the satellite services, and I don't have a problem paying for it.

Harley has a couple of solutions, one is integrated into the audio system. It is also spendy ($500). It also requires some additional parts to install, which I couldn't find locally having checked 7 dealers in the metro Phoenix area. They have another system that mounts on your handlebars, it was under $300 but I couldn't find one of those anywhere. It may be discontinued.

So that led me to the aftermarket, and they really don't have a decent motorcycle system out there. I saw motorcycle kits, but they are essentially a car dock with a windshield mount that didn't look like it would work for me.

I found the Audiovox XMP3i, which is a portable unit with a built-in antenna. I can use it on my bike, my truck, or my house since it came with a home dock. I found a RAM mount for it and purchased a USB charging cable. I have a dual USB port that plugs into the lighter socket in my fairing and I use an aux cable to connect to my audio system.

It has worked great on the way to the rally, only losing the signal in some steep, narrow canyons in Colorado, and then only for a few seconds at a time.

I have about $200 into this setup and am really pleased with it.
