air filter rain sock
I have put an exposed 8.5" k&n air filter on the right side. It really added some punch at all rpms. Doors anyone know where I can get a good prefilter? Something to keep bugs and the occasional rain out. It would be so much easier to clean. I need one 8.5" x 3". That would hide the line of silicon I used to seal it to the backing plate!!

Just a guess here, but have you tried K&N?

Rain won't bother it. I've been thru 3 torrential storms with the same set. No problem.

A little water through the intake won't hurt anything. It turns to steam in the combustion chamber and keeps things clean.

won't hurt the bike running but you will have to re-oil more frequently as the oil will wash away

I never have an issue with my open air breather unless I drown it when washing it (yes I did it). I now put a plastic shopping bag over it when washing and it works fine.
Rain storms won't bother it at all.

Aint to sure about "rain/water protection"...but I use (on everything) some rain gutter guard (the mesh type..but there are others that look nice)..cut it to size/shape..paint it any color you like...or leave it "steel finish"...it protects against rocks, big bugs...etc (I use Nylon Zip-Ties to secure it --WARNING DO NOT WASTE YOU TIME AND MONEY ON --PLASTIC-- ZIP TIES, Buy Only --NYLON-- ZIP TIES)
I'v got it inside the grill in all three trucks...and across the lower front of the engine on my Big Assed Bike (02 Nomad) ..after a 100 miles of huge grasshoppers on the hiway in eastern Arizona a couple years ago, completely packed the lower engine area with grass hopper gut's !..(and they plugged-up my deer whistles under the floor boards !..boy did THAT Chap my Hide !) |

Some great ideas everyone. Man this forum is really awesome. K&n has a 9x3 that might work. Anybody have one and is the elastic strong enough? I would probably use some long nylon zip ties anyway. Even if it isn't necessary I would want one for a number of reasons. The perfect deal would be 1/4" thick and strong elastic and blue!! Yeah, muz, I could feel the slightest amount of air leaking but some clear silicon fixed it right up. Now I just want to hide it!!

I took my filter down to the local auto store where they measured it up and order one. It is a tight fit but once it's on it's on there tight.
