With the colder weather the battery is probably down slightly, mine does the same thing and then once the alternator kicks in and the charge goes up, the light goes out. Only does it when it is cold, and when i don't plug the battery tender in.

That is showing the condition of the battery after the start up procedure. As batteries age they lose their ability to recover from a power drain. Starting up the skoot pulls ALOT of power from the battery, bringing battery voltage down. A good battery, one that is in top shape will recover quickly and the battery lite will go out as soon as the engine starts up.

When my skoot was about 2 y/o the same thing started to happen. At some point in time after the light started remaining on for a short time after start up, I noticed that the engine would "buck" the starter and there was some difficulty in cranking. Sometimes enuff to cause the electrical system to frag out and zero out my trip meters and clock.

After enuff of that I installed a new battery, no more battery lite.

Ur battery is getting old and is taking awhile to recover from the start up procedure.

Kinda like me!!

itt's nice you get warning before it dies instead of getting stranded or having to push start after a party downtown with hundreds of people looking on...

Unfortunately it is only alerting to the batteries slower recovery from the starting procedure.

While that is certainly a helpful "warning" that the battery is getting old , there can still be the "strand you on the side of the road failure", such as when the battery shorts out internally or develops an internal open circuit. Those are typically instant type failures that rarely give any warning.

If the battery gets to the point where there is difficulty in starting the engine, replace the battery.

One other thing-prolonged use of a low battery can cause starter failure.

Low voltage can arc the brushes on the armature burning the surface where the brushes make contact.
