My 4X4 needs buffing...compound?

I just bought an '08 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab 4X4 and need to buff the Arizona pin stripes (scratches) out of the paint. Gonna run down to Harbor Freight and pick up a buffer and some pads. Any suggestions for buffing compound? I normally use Formula 1 Scratch Out for this sort of thing but would like to hear what you've had good results with.

I find that any compound or scratch remover they sell in consumer type stores is too mild and you will be there for hours. Go to an automotive parts store that supplies automotive refinish products. They should have compound in several grits. Depending on the severity choose one that is not too aggressive and try that first, if it is too slow try a bit more aggressive one. Last thing you want to do is burn through the clear coat.

Back when I had a sailboat I used a product called SeaPower. It would take scratches out of isinglass windows, gel coat, that black plastic stuff, deck hatch windows, lots of things.

On windshields you're usually talking about very fine swirly scratches for which you want the MILDEST abrasive possible. I have found this common product works great for me rubbed on and right back off with cotton jersey - NuFinish clearcoat scratch doctor:
