I and many others have used the regular Rotella 15w-40 in our bikes. It does not have to be the synthetic oil only. In fact, that is what's in my 1600 right now.

Motorcycle usageEdit

Though marketed as an engine oil for diesel trucks, Rotella oil has found popularity withmotorcyclists*as well. The lack of "friction modifiers" in Rotella means they do not interfere with wet clutch operations. This is called a "shared sump" design, which is unlike automobiles which maintain separate oil reservoirs - one for the engine and one for the transmission. Used oil analysis (UOA) reports on BobIsTheOilGuy.com have shown wear metals levels comparable to oils marketed as motorcycle-specific.

JASO-MA

Both Rotella T 15W-40 conventional and, Rotella T6 5W-40 Synthetic both list the JASO MA standard; this information can be found on the bottle adjacent to the SAE/API rating stamp.*JASO*is an acronym that stands for "The Japanese Automotive Standards Organization." Note that the 10W-30 conventional oil does*not*list JASO-MA.

ROTELLA T6 SYNTHETIC Yours has the miles on it and it is ripe to change over to synthetic oil. Filter of your choice. I use Purolator Oil Filters on all my bikes and I have a few. Never had a problem in over 50 years with Purolator filters so I stick with them. The Rotella T6 is very good also.

Another vote for Rotella 15-40. Its affordable, easy to find and a motorcycle rated oil. Don't get the Rotella 10-45. Its not motorcycle rated (JASO-MA)
Used K&N oiol filters for years but recently switched to Purolators.

And the K & N filter simply because it has a 17mm nut made to the back of it so its very easy to remove. If you do go with the K & N filter dont use that nut to over tighten the filter to much during install.
This oil you show is not recommended for motorcycles!!!

VulcanRider - Read the reviews in that link and see how many are using this in their bikes. Just because in the specifications, it has a "no" next to "motorcycle", does not mean that the person that wrote it knew what he was doing. Hell, he didn't even write all categories & specs for the oil in there.

Here are the full specs, approvals, & recomendations for this oil -
http://www.epc.shell.com/Docs/GPCDOC...-US%29_TDS.pdf

Notice the "JASO" spec
