Debaffle with a BAK
I know this has been beaten to death and I've searched the site for answers but haven't really found any answers. I was wondering if I debaffle my stock pipes with my BAK already installed will the performance be worse? I know the sound won't be much different but this was something I was considering doing.

A BAK won't help much if you can't get the extra air out the exhaust. It won't be any worse just not a whole lot better either.

Yes debaffling will make it better not worse with this condition; You will have completed two of the "big three" - intake and exhaust, leaving fuel management to complete the upgrade. Without adding a fuel processor to that injected machine she'll run too lean and overheat. (something like that)

Make the fuel processor and debaffle one project. You'll be glad you did. I did the triumvirate of mods; intake, processor, debaff and it really woke up the engine on my '04 1500.

If it's a money thing I'd get the processor first because there are less expensive (or even free) ways to open up the intake to release the power. Hell if you want to play take the intake filter off completely and do some power runs - just avoid dust and bugs till you get a proper filter back on. Then again maybe you should forget that suggestion :)

I think I'll just play it safe and save some $ for some aftermarket pipes.

Unless you like lots of noise debaffling the stock mufflers will add a nice rumble.
It was just the sound I was looking for. Saving the hundreds of bucks on an aftermarket exhaust was a bonus. If you want more noise go directly to an aftermarket exhaust. |

I didn't like the debaffle on my Nomad... It created a "fart in a bottle" rattle in a tin can echo I wasn't fond of, so I had some short pieces of straight pipe welded back in there - which gave a slightly deeper more authoritative sound I was looking for.
But that slight exhaust modification, with a Dobeck fuel processor and a K&N filter in the OEM dog bowl - gave me a lot better fuel consumption figures. And being able to use lower grade fuel saved me even more in running costs.
