Coolant flush

Ok first off im new to working on bikes. And i refuse to pay someone to do something i can learn to do myself. Trying to find a how to on to change and flush my coolant oN my 2001 nomad 1500. Thanks for any help i can get i got a 1000 mile trip this weekend and i wanna make sure shes good to go.

The 1500 has a bleeder to open at the cap area and the bolt nearest the 'B' where bolt A is needs to be cracked open and let coolant run out with no bubbles. I assume meter 'A' means to remove the speedo and it's units to get the tank off. All bleeding is done cold. While I have never raised the tank to do any work once in my life it is possible to lift the rear of the tank and use a bent funnel if removing the tank seems difficult. You must bleed the top left bolt on the water pump as otherwise the pump will cavitate and the air will mess up the pump possibly and the coolant will not flow.

When I first got my 99 the radiator was full of crap. It had been sitting for 12 years when I got it. I bought some Prestone radiator flush and followed the directions. Drained the coolant (guck) following the above procedure, filled with the Prestone flush and water. Ran it around for a bit. Drained it and an unbelievable amount of crap came out. Filled it twice more with straight water and drained it after running each time. Filled it with 50/50 mix of coolant and distilled water. It's been fine ever since, although probably time to do it all again.

White vinegar mixed 50 50 with water makes an excellent flush.
