Orthopedist Visit
I went to see the ortho Dr this morning for the left knee.
He told me that it was the worst knee he had seen in years and the only way to fix it was a total replacement. After explaining to him that I wasn't at a place in life where I could take the time needed to recover from that kind of procedure he suggested some injections and meds. He thinks I can get another 1 1/2 -2 years out of it by using cortisone injections and pain meds. That will give me time to plan for having it done. At least I should be more mobile than I was at the Helen rally. MT

Good luck. Hope the meds work until you can get the surgery done.

Tim, sorry to hear this, but when in Helen, I could see you were obviously in a great deal of discomfort (pain). I hope it goes well for you, but don't put it off too long.
BTW, it was great to finally meet you.

Get it fixed as soon as you are able, my pal had his replaced and he said it was an incredible difference in the way it worked and felt. He went from barely walking with a cane to walking effortlessly within a few months.

With the changes coming in health care, I would say sooner is better than later. I've heard of deductibles going from $1000 to $15000 plus it's an elective surgery. It's not going to get better with shots and meds, you just won't feel the pain as much but it's still there. I've rehabed hundreds of pts through these and I can't tell you how many have said they wished they had done it sooner. After the surgery, control the swelling and you control the knee. Good luck to ya.

Thanks for all of the well wishes.
The Cortisone injection is really helping with the comfort level. I can get around much better. My problem is timing. I just don't have 6-12 weeks to be layed up recovering right now. I talked with my business 'partner' and we both agree that we can plan for it and I can make time for it in 12-18 months. We just have too many projects right now. I'm trying to finish up a 15000 sq ft remodel of a historic home, I just started a 12000 sq ft remodel of another historic home, we have a 12000 sg ft new construction home in for permits, we have 12 penthouse units to provide construction management for their upcoming remodeling beginning in August. And about a half dozen assorted others. I'm looking for someone to bring on and train to be my assistant. Hopefully that person will be able to be my mobility while I'm recovering. It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when. Maybe right after next year's National Rally. Thanks again. MT
