Question Speedo stuck on 2000 1500 nomad FI

my speedo sticks, and when I take the cable loose, it falls back to 0, I ordered a new cable, OEM, what kind of lube can be done to the speedometer head? can I clean it with break clean, and then use a lightweight grease? My first Kawasaki, so i'm looking for help.

I don't think you can or should lube the speedo head but the cable should be lubed.
A lightweight grease should do the job.

A fuel injected bike shouldn't have a cable.

The FI bikes are supposed to read the speed electronically off the bevel gear cover.

I just looked it up and both were sold.

The FI's were electronic only from 01 on, the 00's were the changeover year.

I wish mine was electronic, but it is what it is. I hope the cable solves the problem

Having a mechanical speedometer is not a bad thing. The electronic ones can get much more expensive. Use a dry graphite lubricant on your speedometer cable for lubrication. Can't get anything better.

If you can pull the cable out of the housing, do so and inspect it closely for rust and dried up lubricant. Sand off any rust spots and clean all the old lubricant off with a good degreaser such as brake or carb cleaner. Let it dry and then lubricate it well with graphite.

UPDATE: New cable installed, lubed with graphite, and it works again. Thanks for all the help.
