2013 vaquero trans slipping
So I rode with a friend the other day and he commented on how loud it was when I shifted gears. It then was slipping from 1st gear to second without doing anything. It's got about 11500 miles on it. Any suggestions on what to do here?

When was your last oil change, Recent? I once put car oil in an older Suzuki and it made the clutch slip. It was to slippery for the clutch plates. But that was an old bike. Changed it out and all was fine.

Dealer changed the oil before season. I can change and try it. Any oil recommendations for this bike?

Sounds like the oil is fine since you have been riding it for a while.
That's funny Though Quote:
I have read dealer horror stories of oil changes on this site. Have you checked d the level. Correctly. revzilla has a great utube vid on the Vaquero. Ine of our members had half his oil changed at the dealer since the did not know about the 2nd plug. then they over filled it. Clutch fluid, checked? SHH, on the correct oil. Every one has a favorite, brand ,type, kind. Don't get them started, let them sleep.

Thanks for the info. I typically use castrol in all my toys. I'll give it a shot

Make sure it's Wet Clutch compatable
Quote:
Just any ole Castrol won't do, gotta be Motorcycle or one with the JASO-MA rating. Several Shell Rotella products have this rating - but not all Rotella. |

Have you checked or changed your oil in you hyd. clutch system? If it did it during the course of 1 shift, it could be your Master cylinder not returning the piston all the way closed. Check your lever, does it feel like your clutch has changed? Grabs on occassions?
Open your MC, get a small piece of wire, bend a shirt 'L' on the bottom, make sure its clean, lightly drag it along the MCs bottom. Does any goop come up or is it clean? Lubricate your clutch lever pivot and the plunger that rides on the lever. Sometimes crap builds up on the plunger right where it comes thru the seal outta the MS. How far is the clutch handle in when you feel it disengaging? I doubt its in the clutch itself....

Well I have barely ridden the bike this year so it very well could be the dealers oil change. I'm gonna try that first

Dragonlady is offering good advice. I would check clutch mechanism before suspecting oil. I had similar issue on my 98 Nomad once. The hydraulic press/release mechanism at the clutch was the issue
