T6 oil
I've been using this oil and Mobil-1 TD syn oil since my Nomad was bought new '05. I've had no issues with these two oils. I was over at the Vulcan Owners forum the other day and a guy said he was talking to the Shell rep and he told him that T6 has changed since emissions had changed on TD trucks. He said to not use T6 in MC now since it has more detergents or some crap like that. My question to you guys is there any truth to this new found information from Shell and are you guys still using T6 in your Nomads? Thanks and sorry about another oil thread. :-)

Mobil TD has never been certified for use in your motorcycle. Matter of fact Mobils Vtwin motorcycle oil is NOT certified for use in your bike either. Only thing they show for metric motorcycles is their "Racing 4T" as being JASO MA certified. Will you ever have a problem because of ? Who knows. If you like pushing the envelope then continue. If your concerned then find a JASO MA certified oil and start using it.

If a TD oil has the CK-4 certification listed, it MAY still be suitable for use with a wet clutch. If it has an FA-4 certification, do not use it for a wet clutch!
CK-4 mfgs are also changing the formulas to use newer anti-wear additives to reduce ash in diesel engines. All these changes are "supposed" to be backwards compatible for any engine needing CJ-4, but they are referring to diesel engines not motorcycles with wet clutches. Final note, Shell sold the new formula without label changes during the time they were waiting the CK-4 certification to be approved, so you may have already had the new formula in your bike and not known it. |

I purchased the T-6 with the new label. Not in the same packaging as what I already had. I don't know if changes have been made to it or not. It says it is JASO MA certified. I have been using it. No issues.

I use to run the T6 oil, but went back to regular Dino, Pennzoil 10-40.
I have heard more than once, that synthetics can cause some leakage, anyway, no leaks anymore. knock on wood! I do like oil threads, oh, did I say that.......

Well, the ol' girl is pushing 45k miles, all but 13k belonging to me. Last weekend I decided I was going to quit being a penny pincher and spring for synthetic - especially since the sale price for Valvoline 10w-40 synth (for cycles) was only $1 more/qt than a regularly priced quart of dino. O-M-G! I was floored by the difference! Now, be it my car or my bike, I can always feel the difference after EVERY oil change. Always. I run dino in the car and change at 3k miles. The bike gets it at 2.5k miles. My first bike ride after dumping in 3 qts of synthetic blew me away it was so much smoother than fresh dino. I'm all about synthetic now. And Advance Auto Parts has it on sale for $7.99/qt til the end of August. I'm picking up 6 more quarts before then.

If anything, I have found the opposite to be true. I have only used synthetics in the Voyager, but when I changed from Rotella T6 to Royal Purple Motorcycle oil in my Honda Sabre, my oil usage dropped dramatically. I went from having to add up to a quart every 3000 miles between oil changes (not all that unusual for a Sabre), to just a few ounces every 4000 miles between oil changes.

Down there under the pics of the truck, tractor, etc. There is a box, the very last thing where it says meets requirements of: it says JASO MA
