curiousity

just wondering... seen a vulcan 88 for sale. crankshaft and rods are no good. what would have caused this, and what else could be wrong with it?

It happens, likely oil issue.

Those who turn their idle down to make their Kaw sound more like a HD cause low oil flow at idle.

And we all know what happens without the needed oil pressure and flow.

Someone here, not long ago had a knock and found out one or both rods were way loose on the crank.

Unless you're very familiar with the '88' or BUBF, walk away very quickly.

Ok. Just for those parts alone I'd be in close to $2k. That was enough for me to keep walking.

I rode a BUBF once. It lives up to it's name (Butt Ugly But Fast). Really surprised me.

I had a Vulcan 88. What an engine. Fast and loads of torque. I remember one of the comparison tests of the big twin Jap bikes commented that the others were better in the curves but you can get your reward dropping the throttle on the way out and out run the others easily. I added pegs, windshield and some really nice studded leather bags. I still miss that bike.
