Big end bearings
Need a bit of help with a search please gentlemen.Someone posted a video of a dismantled engine, with so much slack on the big end, that it should have blown itself apart. It was probably a year or 2 back, but i cant find it.Any of you sad & lonely misfits, with nothing else to do,who can find it,will be rewarded with a transatlantic, full on throat kiss.I think it only fair to warn you, that Top Cat will be delivering it for me.

No mate, all is good here. There is a bloke on another forum, who has just bought a 1600 engine with a shagged big end on one pot.I remember seeing someone on here, showing a video of him pulling his piston up & down, like it never had any shells in it.It had so much slack,i dont understand how it stayed together.I was hoping to pass it on to the bloke. How's the snow oop north anyway lad ?

Yea, when TC came up, and Mick about that delivering.....I strapped the 1 gallon pot on my head and went down behind the island in the kitchen.....
Whewwwww! Anywho, the 1600's are a longer stroke than the 1500s, look at the bore and stroke numbers. Look under Chevy piston and bore sizes, you'll see several that are close. The 1500 and 1600s aren't nothing to sneeze at. Just think, a single cylinder 800cc Enduro! 800ccs in one piston (actually a little less....1550, divided by 2)....thats a pretty big engine. Anyway, with that big of a bore and stroke, when bearings are loose, you never wanna run one. Once you've heard and seen a rod come thru the cases, you never, ever wanna see that again....its a really sickening sound....

Like DL said, the bore on a 1500/1600 is very close to a 5.7 liter or 350 SBC.
Here’s a little bit of knowledge not many have. There is a SB Ford piston and a SB Chevy piston that will work in the 15/1600s. I believe it’s a 347 Ford piston you can use with the 1500 rods and a Chevy that works with the 1600 rods. All you have to do is sleeve the wrist pin. You’ll end up in the 11.5/1 compression vicinity. This will not be too high with the 1500 MS cams. The separation and exhaust duration actually allow up to about 12/1 without needing special fuel to prevent detonation. Your buddies engine is likely toast. Once the rod starts wallowing like that it’s rough on the piston.
