Winter Storage - Page 2

Unfortunately getting my bike out of storage is not as easy as opening the garage door and firing up the bike. The location of the bike shed is impossible to get to once we have 2 feet of compacted snow that is frozen solid to contend with.

I don't have to worry about the bike being stolen over the winter unless the thieves show up with a jack hammer or a flame thrower.

Sounds like whee I used to live, slight down grade to the shed over grass and then a sharp right turn to get into the shed. No problem getting it in there but what a hell of a time getting it out come spring. Grass was soft as s**t and the same consistency. Ended up putting down roofing shingles one spring to get it out...............Mike

Until all the snow has melted in the Spring I cant even get the doors open in the fence to get to the shed where the bike is.

Well I trip over the bike daily in my garage, when parked for the day or the winter. I must say I Envy anyone that has an extra storage unit, most days. I would miss looking at it daily though. I might get over it after February.

Is the Trickle charger sufficient to take care of the battery and equal to taking it out and storing it in the basement? Thoughts?

Smart charger, which charges when battery drops below a certain voltage then stops till it needs more voltage like sold at Walmart, YES
Just an ordinary trickle charger that charges all the time , not good for the battery,

I wouldn't use one of those.

Anyone have an opinion which is better removing the battery and taking it to the basement vs. hooking up the battery tender for the winter?

I don't have that option as there are no power outlets where the bike is stored.
The battery comes off and goes in the basement and gets an overnight trickle charge once a month.

This gets my vote, yet I leave mine in on the battery tender junior and start it every 2 weeks.

Not that that is good, but I need to hear it and drive it if the driveway is clear. Never said I was the sharpest tool in my shed.

Our bikes are in an unheated garage on smart chargers.
Never had a problem with this set up.
