Ivan's Voyager 1700 ECU Reflash Follow-up
Original message:
I have a 2015 Voyager 1700 with about 80,000 km's ,(48000 miles) that I removed the ECU and had Ivan reflash it back in May 2016. The bike had zero miles on it so I had nothing to compare it to other that my previous bike that was a 2011 Voyager with 145,000 km's on it and stock ECU. I would say that the 2015 after the ECU flash was an improvement to the 2011 but there are still some issues with the 2015. Ivan has offered to reflash the ECU for n/c if I ship it to him. I am currently in Az for the winter and I could make this happen. If you have done Ivan's most recent reflash I would value your opinion if you think there is value reflashing it. The downside (reflash is n/c) would be the shipping charge (about 120.00) and the downtime as the nice riding weather has hit Az. The issues that I have with the bike with the original reflash are: 1- when first started (cold) the engine will surge for about 2 minutes. Surges from about 1100 to 1500 RPM's (Annoying but not a deal breaker) 2-when the engine is warm and at an idle it stumbles if quickly accelerated. Only does it from an idle. 3-very jerky throttle response at slow speeds (herky/jerky) 4-Once the engine is warm it is hard starting. Have to give it some throttle before it will start. Starts great when cold-just surges. ECU was flashed by Ivan with his Version1. I am hoping these issues can be resolved with the newer Version reflash. Your input would greatly be appreciated. Thanks in advance. I have now rode about 300 miles and these are my observations: 1-Throttle control and response at low speed is greatly improved. Not 100% perfect but about 80% better. No more severe herky jerky. 2-no more surge when started cold. Ramps up to about 1300 RPM and only fluctuates about 50 RPM. Not like the 400 RPM before. 3-Stumble at low idle with quick acceleration is way better. About 95% better. I did raise low idle (+50 RPM) back up to factory stock setting. I believe that also helped with the slight hard start when engine was hot. 4-Engine seems to run a little cooler as I see the fan now comes on a bit sooner which appears to keep it a little cooler. I am currently in Arizona with a high temp of +80F. The true test will be summer. (shouldn't be a problem as I return back to Calgary, Canada) 5-fuel mileage seems to be about the same-51 mpg Imperial (42mpg US) So in summary I am very pleased. I want to thank Ivan for his great customer service and quick turn around times. I shipped the ECU to him USPS (from Az) with 850.00 insurance and it took 2.5 days (through a weekend) for $28.80 and Ivan shipped it back to me FedEx with 850.00 insurance for $28.00 and was back here in about 2.5 days. That has to be the best $56.80 I have spent on the bike so far. Jimbo279 __________________ Jim Murray Calgary Alberta/Queen Creek Az VBA# 1970 2015 Voyager ABS
