Replacing Radiator Fan Switch Problem

Radiator Fan Switch replacement is very difficult -- I am unable to reach the Push to unlock connector from the Fan Switch to the Fan Motor. Following Gadgets Fixit directions I have removed the Radiator Front Guard and Rectifier(s) and still find it impossible to reach the connector. I am working on my 2008 Nomad 1600 and have purchased a replacement Fan Switch at $142 Canadian Dollars. (SIC)

Does any Forum Member have a suggestion on how to replace this Fan Switch, better still have you been able to replace one yourself? if I fail to do this I may just cut the Wire leads off the original failed Fan Switch then solder Wire extensions to a 20 Amp rated Toggle Switch. This way I can manually operate the Radiator Fan switching it on when in heavy traffic or idling for extended periods.

I figure I can mount this Toggle Switch in the Bracket that mounts my Horn.

You might have to remove the radiator to fit it. I bought a switch for a Honda 250 trail bike, on ebay. Cost about $20, and works fine.

To remove the Radiator I would need to disconnect my Fan Switch Plug first and this is my problem in first place.

As i recall, and it was a while ago. Follow the wiring up on the right side of the frame. Just under the head stock, you will find a 2 pin plug, along with others. for the horn ect.. Disconnect it/ them. Unscew the jubillee clips on the top & bottom hoses, and pull the hoses off. There is an 8mm bolt at the top, front of the radiator, remove that. At the bottom, are 2 lugs, that sit into rubber grommets, atached to the frame. Lift the rad up, and forward. Now it's all yours. If you cant work it out from there, sell the fucking bke mate.

I have measured the New Replacement Radiator Fan Switch wire leads to be 3.5 Inches including the 2 Pole Plug. It is to be routed from Bottom of Radiator on a Nomad 1600 to a congested wiring area under the attached Fan. One cannot see this area nor feel to unhook the 2 Pole Plug even with the Fan Guard removed and the Rectifier unbolted.

So I opted to cut the wiring at the back of the Old Failed Radiator Fan Switch. Then spliced and run these wires to double throw 20 Amp Toggle Switch mounted to the Bracket holding the Horn. Now I can operate the Fan at any time there is a need like Stop and Go Traffic or when idling for an extra-long period.

Seeing as I had just recently serviced my Cooling System so he next time that I will be flushing and replacing my Antifreeze I will then install my New replacement Radiator Fan Switch connected to my double throw 20 Amp Toggle Switch. This way I can have the Fan controlled by the Radiator Fan Switch as intended and still have the backup option of being able to manually control the Fan operation.
