antenna removal

I would like to put a much smaller antenna on my 1700 Voyager...page 16-100 and 16-101 in service manual says " when removing the antenna loosen the grip of antenna end and remove it " before I tear the hell out of it does the antenna screw off at that point to install a shorter one ? thanks

Yes it does. Very easily, in fact a lot of riders have had them unscrew and fall off while riding.
I changed mine to a short on years ago. Use a little locktite on the new one so you don't lose it.

this is the one I got. It fits but its not great. But I really don't use the radio so no big deal. I didn't like the long one, and something needs to be on there for a clean look.

Some people put a lockwasher between the antenna and the holder on the trunk to stop the antenna from unscrewing.
