Seat advice wanted
Im looking for a replacement seat for my 2012 1700 nomad. In reading the forums I find differing opinions On what seat dose what. I have found some say a mustang saddle moves you forward, but in the reviews at Dennis Kirk on the 76601 seat one reviewer says "The seat sat me back at least two inches from the stock seat".. Some say Corbin is further back, others not..
I have owned Corbin's, and mustang's in the past, and have found both comfortable after break in. I have no experience with day long or any others. I am 6'4" and find my position ok, back would be ok but definitely don't want to be moved forward to the tank. Any first hand knowledge would be greatly appreciated, I would hate to spend all this money just to hate it. Thank you Dan Login or Register to Remove Ads |

I did buy a new mustang saddle, and thought I would share that experience.
The mustang did move me back and up, roughly 2" both directions. The passenger seat is much smaller, length is understandable as the driver moved back, but with was much smaller also. I had a shadow 1100 spirit before and put a mustang on that, and I be leave the basic seat may be the same, with the pan changed. My seat was defective, It looked like a cheap boat cushion ,with wrinkles and loose cover. According to customer service it left the factory without "heat treating". Everybody can make a mistake, and they were 100% behind fixing it, until they saw the receipt from the Ebay seller. Even though the seller has a brick and mortar store mustang considers anything from eBay as a third party sale, and wile they would recover in it 3-4 weeks, my expense for shipping, they would not honor there warranty and exchange it as they had originally stated they would. I ended up sending back to the eBay seller, who lists a 100% satisfaction guarantee , and they refunded 50% only claiming I sent it to the wrong address... They provided the shipping label. After getting Ebay involved I did get a full refund. I now have a Ultimate seat on order. |

I am also 6,4" With a 36"+ inseam I have a Day Long on mine. Moved me Up and back. I did have to send it back twice to get it right. But now its a all day(400+ mile a day) 2+ week trip seat.
Passenger seat is about the same.

I received the Ultimate drivers seat and it is installed. It is a nice seat, not back or up as far as the mustang, I would guess 1 1/2 " up and one inch back. One note here is that it works with the factory passenger seat, kind of. It fits and functions, but being back further makes the passenger seat really press into your upper butt or lower back. If you push back into the front of the factory passenger seat you will feel a hard ridge, that's what will be poking you. You could undo the cover and grind it down, but I decided to just get the matching rear seat.
If you look on there website at the picture with the front and back seats together, take note of the flap to install the drivers backrest. Using the factory passenger seat this is totally covered by the hard plastic inside the seat. |

So if anyone is following along, I have all 4 Ultimate seat parts, and it finally is just right. Originally I bought just the drivers seat, and it will work, but you will need to modify the original back seat, or just get poked , but my wife decided she would like to try the Ultimate passenger seat.. Well that kind of worked, but now I was getting my tail bone crushed by the drivers backrest bracket built into the seat, and the factory back rest now pushed my wife to far forward for the new shape of the the new seat. Got her the new backrest pad, fixed that but I was still hurting on the bracket, so in the end, yes you could try just a part or 2, but to make it work properly, you will need all 4 parts..
Thats my experience with aftermarket seats.. |
