I know it is optional when filing out info in the profile but I was wondering why some folks leave out location and email address. Really don't mean to cause problems for anyone, just curious.

I've been a member of the VolusiaRiders for several years and before that the Volusia Owners League and had my name, hometown and email address posted with no problem. It has never contributed to spam or any other problems. When I made a trip to Ohio a couple of years ago on the Volusia I was able to locate other Volusia owners along the route, contacted them ahead of the trip and had some great meetings with new friends. There are awesome people on these sites with interesting stories. (Annie still thinks I'm going to run into Jack the Ripper or something) Point is, it has never caused me any problem. I understand the concern about spam but that is what filters are for. On this site I have already met half of VC (Chuck) and am looking forward to meeting Wolfman someday soon. He lives less than a tank full of gas away from me. Stuff like that is one of the benefits of these sites. Getting to meet and make new friends. I would like to hear from someone who has chosen not to post some of his/her info. I promise not pick on them, just curious.

I just looked at my profile and my email was hidden. I think it must default to hiding one's email address. I know I didn't realize there was a place to mark that when I filled in my info. Maybe that's the reason for some??

That would explain some with hidden info Kawgirl. To be honest I would expect that women may be more careful than men when posting email addresses and location. You have to admit, there are not too many women out there stalking pot bellied-balding-bikers but some men will go after anything female.

The problem is that old farts are extremely paranoid about identity theft and like my parents go to EXTREMES to protect it. I still haven't figured out how someone can get my social security number from knowing what state I live in or seeing my email address!

Hello Idaho, my email address was blocked like Kawgirl's was. I too had to unhide mine. I think I just did not see the box to make it visible the first time I filled out my profile information. Thanks for starting the thread.... as it has help a couple of us. Doug
