Removing Silencers
Well, let me say thanks to BD for increasing the value of the almost new stock pipes laying in my garage......the bidding will begin now for anyone wanting to try something further :) ;)

Removing Silencers
Well, after reading all 12 pages of this post I decided to do my pipes this weekend. I had planned on buying the V&H but would much rather save some money. I was worried it may sound like an old Honda Spirit with loud pipes. They make an ugly popping sound and not a deep rumple. I think most of you have the 1600. Have any of you done this to a 1500? I wouldn't think they would be any different.
Thanks, Zoom45

Zoom, I believe they are the same. check here http://www.gadgetjq.com/muffler_gut.htm but just don't follow the directions. Our way is 10 times easier and faster.

I plan on getting the stuff this Saturday and doing the "Silencer" thang. I'll report after the deed is done.

The warranty question was raised. wouldn't it be best to wait til the warranty has expired then do the changes.

Removing Silencers
I couldn't wait till the weekend and went ahead and removed my baffles . It was easy to do as stated, does sound deeper, and it's not too loud. Right now, to me, it's a toss up on whether I liked it better stock or with the new sound. I'm so use to the stock sound and only have a harley with drag pipes to compare it to. I do like it better than a stock harley sound. You don't notice that much louder sound on the highway. It must make some difference because I passed some Harley guys eating outside and they stopped eating to see what it was when I came by.
I wonder if rounding over the inside of the cut flange and grinding the cut smooth will change the tune any? I think I'm going to try it before I paint mine. Zoom45
